Face & Body 2008 Pre-conference Workshops

Saturday, August 16
1-5 PM

New this year, Face & Body is pleased to offer four intense, 4-hour workshops offering extensive information on physiology, makeup, Reiki treatments and ingredients. (Additional fee required. Attendee can choose only one of the four options.)

The four Workshop topics and leaders include:

The Anatomy of a Skin Care Product
Peter T. Pugliese, MD, Circadia by Dr. Pugliese
Room 131

This is a one-of-a kind interactive cosmetic chemistry class brought to estheticians by a master formulator and researcher. Dr. Pugliese leads the discussion into the complex world of product development, defining what is meant by “active” and “anti-aging”, “natural” and “organic” ingredients, preservative systems, and what they are all supposed to do. Each student will enjoy a hands-on experience, working with the laboratory equipment and raw materials used in creating superior skin care formulations, and highlighted by making an effective peptide to take home. All will be given both a Certificate of Completion for a five-hour Cosmetic Chemistry Workshop, and a new confidence in discerning professional product claims and performance.

Be the “It” Makeup Artist
Noreen Young, Noreen Young Cosmetics & Makeup Studio
Room 130

All clients want to look their best, and you can offer that to them. Don’t just provide facials, manicures and spa treatments—offer that little bit more. Makeup is truly the finishing touch to any service or day of beauty, yet it’s repeatedly seen that a day of services does not include makeup, and many spas don’t even offer cosmetic applications or retail makeup products. Be that one-stop beauty experience! Join international educator Noreen Young as she shares what makes her makeup studio such a success. Business owners, professional makeup artists and newbies to the beauty business will learn all the essentials you need to know for pretty faces and pretty profits. Join this charismatic speaker with irresistible enthusiasm and so much more!

You will learn:

  • What you need to set up a makeup department in your spa
  • What beauty products, makeup brushes and touches of green beauty to consider retailing
  • The art of the makeup lesson and some unique beauty techniques
  • How to professionally recommend and sell makeup, skin care and makeup brushes—all while doing a step-by-step lesson
  • How to change a day look into an evening look
  • What you need in your makeup case for “on-the-go” makeup applications when you’re on location for special events or makeup assignments
  • Celebrity beauty secrets
  • The things you need to do to set yourself apart from the rest
  • Marvelous marketing ideas to get and keep you name out there

Be the it makeup artist and destination in your neighborhood and city. One lucky winner will also win a basket of education and beauty. This workshop will also include hands-on makeup application and technique.

Rainbow Reiki Treatment
Linda Bertaut, Bertaut Beauty
Room 132

Is your appointment book full? Obtain the tools you need to transform your practice into a wellness sanctuary and provide a service your clients will book weekly. Linda Bertaut teaches you to perform her unique energy-infusion treatment that will leave your clients asking for more. You will learn the step-by-step procedure to perform a Full-spectrum Rainbow treatment using gemstones, colored light, music, aromatherapy and hands-on healing. Treating the stress that affects your clients gives your spa menu that extra boost, elevating your level of service and providing added value.

You will receive a Reiki energy attunement and healing gemstone kit, including a pendulum, chakra heart stones and black tourmaline crystal to use at home and in your practice.

You will learn:

  • How to give your clients and yourself a boost of blissful energy using color, gemstones and aromatherapy.
  • How going green from within is achieved in full-spectrum treatments.
  • How to develop confidence and deepen your relationship with your intuitive self.
  • Hands-on training to use a pendulum to assess energy before and after your treatments.
  • How to easily integrate wellness services and products into your spa menu.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion for this four-hour intensive.

Insights into Inflammation and Wound Healing
Rebecca James Gadberry, YG Laboratories
Room 133

Inflammation isn’t just the bottom line of aging; it’s also a key component in the wound-healing process that takes place when skin recovers from peels, lasers, light treatments, dermal planing and other medical procedures, as well as from diseases such as acne.

You will learn:

  • Positive and negative effects of inflammation
  • The three distinct stages of wound healing
  • Benefits and biochemistry of each stage
  • Ingredients that support or control this biochemistry
  • When to introduce specific ingredients to enhance and shorten the wound-healing process

The material in this workshop is taken directly from Rebecca James Gadberry’s highly successful course Advances in Skin Care Ingredients for Non-Chemists at the University of California, Los Angeles Extension. If you’re a clinical esthetician or working in the field of medical esthetics, you need this class.
